Small Business Saturday

Backroom Joe here again.  I know it's been a while since we chatted, life has been crazy-busy as I'm sure you'll agree.  It seems like just last week we were getting ready for Memorial Day and now . . . the advent of Old Man Winter is just around the corner.

My work has been steadily busy over the past few months and with all the football games and such, there has been little time to be involved with AddicTreasures but last Saturday I had a chance to run the store for the day and get re-acquainted with life in the Valley Courtyard.

One Year Anniversary

Backroom Joe here again.  Sorry that I haven't been blogging for a while, my businessCapital Supply Management (www.capsupman.com) has been enjoying success and I've been busy.  That's a good thing in this crazy economy, at least in my business.
Anyway, I'm not here to toot my own horn, there's a much prettier horn that needs tootin' - that beingRose Nihill and her wonderful storeAddicTreasures!  It's hard to believe but we are coming up on our One Year Anniversary this October 1st.

You can get it at the Mall . . .

That's right, you can get just about anything at the Mall - and chances are that your friends or neighbors will have it too!

Have you ever been to a party, dinner affair or social occassion wearing a piece of jewelry or a fashion accessory and see someone with the exact same thing.  A little disappointing and somewhat of an uncomfortable moment, don't you think?

Have you been furniture shopping lately and just can't seem to find that accent piece to finish off a room?  Most of the chain stores all carry the same kinds of production furniture.

What's in a name - Part II

Well, it looks as if we have to end the "Name the Store" competition.  We thank you all for submitting all the wonderful suggestions and we are happy to announce that WE HAVE A WINNER!!!

Our daughter MaryKate came up with a logo to match the name we originally thought of and it's just to darned cute not to use.  We thinkUnder The Chaircaptures that "Je ne sais pas" feeling of a certain style and grace that really does justice to the beautiful furniture we will be offering at the new store.

What's in a name

I have been thinking about that questions the past few days.  Let's take the name of our store, for example.  When we started AddicTreasures, someone asked if this is a consignment shop.  The answer to that is no, no and no!  Although we do have a couple of items that were given to us from estates, those are the exception to the rule.  98% of what we have is new merchandise.

The nameAddicTreasures is a play on words, and a wikipedia definition would go something like this:

Spring Fling

Wow!  The Canadians are more fashion saavy than one would expect.

The Calgary Herald featured an article on the new season and what new fashiontrends mean, you guessed it — shopping. Sure, the Internet and social media havechanged the industry so it’snow more democratic (anyone, anywhere, with an eyefor fabric, colour and silhouette and a reliableInternet connection, can claim fashionexpertise) and the definition of "trends" is less uniform than ever, but the springrunways still revealed a handful of themes that designers seemed to favour, in some

Online Store now available

It's late Sunday night and I'm proud to say that our online store made its debut tonight.  While still in the beginning stage with only a few products online, I successfully got all the "back room" set up complete and I actually bought something.

Friday afternoon I was thinking to myself, ahhh - finally a slow weekend. I thought maybe I could catch a nap or two, enjoy a nice Manhattan and relax.  Well, I'm here to tell you, my wife (Mrs. Boss) had other plans for me.  After outlining her goal for the weekend, we both embarked on this mini-crusade.

What I like about shopping

Like any other guy, I've never been one much for shopping, while my better half possesses that "shop till you drop" stamina, which is howAddicTreasurescame to be - but that's a story for another day.  When we began, I was the guy in the backroom, taking care of shipping, receiving, moving, storage and the multitude of those unseen chores that makes our store a success.

In the evolution of our young business thusfar, a change is occurring that I am happy to see.
